"Sweet Sixteen" - Billy Idol
from the album Whiplash Smile (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #20 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 7

Today's SOTD is from the British "punk-pop" pioneer, Billy Idol, whole Whiplash Smile album had scored him a top-10 pop hit in America with a cover of "To Be A Lover", along with a top-40 followup in "Don't Need A Gun". The third single from the record was the country-tinged mid-tempo ballad "Sweet Sixteen", written by Idol who coos through an ode to a girl that's obviously way to young for him...

"Sweet Sixteen" climbed into the top-20 on the American pop chart in June of 1987, while scaling to #26 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. Internationally, the single made the top-10 in Australia, New Zealand, and Germany (where it peaked at #2), while landing in the top-20 in his native Britain.
