Songoftheday 4/26/15 - Some boys just got the look of a Greek Adonis, and some boys just try to talk you off your feet...

"What You Get Is What You See" - Tina Turner
from the album Break Every Rule (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: # 13 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 7

Today's Song of the Day comes from soul/pop veteran Tina Turner, whose second album post-comeback, Break Every Rule, had scored her a #2 pop hit with "Typical Male" and a top-40 follow-up with the more reserved "Two People". Her third American single from the set, "What You Get Is What You See", written by her winning team of Graham Lyle and Terry Britten, and produced by the latter, sported guitar god Eric Clapton in a cameo role. It sounds like what Shania Twain was doing over a decade later...

"What You Get Is What You See" became the third pop hit from Breaking Every Rule. reaching the top-20 in April of 1987. Internationally, the single went to the top-20 in Germany and Australia, and top-40 in Canada, Austria, and the UK.

Tina performed the song at the American Music Awards...

...and on tour behind the album in England in 1987...

And again a year later in Rio...

and proving she still has got it, from her 2009 show in the Netherlands...

and finally, best of all, the 1989 Australian Rugby promo that featured the song (trust me, you'll want to see this)...

Up tomorrow: a smalltown boy goes to the disco and doesn't want to be put aside.
