Album Sweep: November 9, 2013 - Part Two...


Hey gang, I'm back with the second half of this week's "album sweep", sampling the records making it on to the Top 200 Albums chart in Billboard magazine. You can check out part one by clicking here, and as before I've included highlighted links to buy anything if possible.

Singer/songwriter Brett Dennen comes in at #65 with his fifth album Smoke And Mirrors. In 2008 he went to #41 with Hope For The Hopeless...

Sara Bareilles may be missing out on the upcoming winter season of The Sing-Off, but she's been on a successful tour which now produces the album at #66, Brave Enough: Live At The Variety Playhouse. It's her second live set to make the chart. Sara topped the albums list in 2010 with Kaleidoscope Heart...



Van Morrison arrives at #68 with a "deluxe edition" of his classic album from 1970, Moondance. The set has four CDs worth of music, including alternate takes and mixes, and a Blu-Ray with a surround sound mix. The original went to #29, one of his seventeen to make the top-40...


Hip-hop artist Huey Mack debuts at #89 with Pretending Perfection...


Christian rock band Royal Tailor ascend to #95 with their self-titled sophomore effort....


The late great "queen of disco", Donna Summer, has a remix compilation that enters at #97, Love To Love You Donna. It has reworks of a dozen of her classic songs from Masters at Work, Chromeo, Giorgio Moroder, and more. In her lifetime, Donna topped the albums chart three times, with studio album Bad Girls, her Live & More concert set, and On The Radio: Greatest Hits Vol 1 & II...


Minneapolis-based indie-pop band Polica debut at #115 with Shulamith. their second album..


L.A. lo-fi act Best Coast enter at #122 with their EP Fade Away. Their most recent studio full-length album The Only Place went to #24 last year....


Just in time for the season that just passed, label BMG/Sony's Halloween Party spooks in at #140. It features covers of seasonal-associated songs like "Thriller", "Monster Mash", and "The Time Warp"..

Electronica duo Adventure Club, from Montreal, Canada, jump in at #151 with their Calling All Heroes EP.


The Latin pop compilation Radio Exitos El Disco del Ano: 2013 compiles 20 Spanish-language hits of the year, and comes in at #157...


Glass Cloud, a metalcore band from Hampton, Virginia, place their EP Perfect War Forever at #160. It's their first to make the big chart..


Sitar musician Anoushka Shankar, daughter of the instrument's icon, Ravi, is in at #165 with Traces Of You, her seventh studio set. Her half-sister Norah Jones guests on three of the songs, including the title track..


Country songwriter Brandy Clark lands her own 12 Stories at #197 as the final debut of the week. Brandy has co-written hits for Miranda Lambert ("Mama's Broken Heart"), The Band Perry ("Better Dig Two"), and Kacey Musgraves ("Follow Your Arrow") among others...


That does it for the second half of the new crop...out of these fourteen the three I'd go with first would be the Donna Summer, Sara Bareilles, and Brandy Clark sets....
