Pop Sweep: December 7, 2013...


Hey gang, it's time to kick the first of today's five "chart sweeps" checking out the songs reaching the singles charts in Billboard magazine this week, and as usual I'll start with the pop charts....

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, Lorde holds on to #1 for a ninth week with "Royals"...

British "boy-band" One Direction claim three debuts on the chart this week, with two of them in the top 20. First up at #11 is "Diana"...

Those three One Direction songs are all from their just-released third album Midnight Memories, which will top the albums chart next week. Meanwhile the title track is in at #12  (their "Story Of My Life" is one notch below at #13)..


Justin Bieber's seventh "Music Monday" single "PYD" with R. Kelly pops in at #54...


Kanye West places the fourth song from his Yeezus album, "Bound 2", on the chart at #73. Earlier this year he put in "New Slaves" at #56...


British newcomer John Newman debuts at #85 with his former #1 UK hit "Love Me Again"...


The third of the One Direction tracks to enter the list is "Strong" at #87...


Rapper and Auto-Tuned singer T-Pain returns at #95 with "Up Down (Do This All Day)". As a lead artist he placed six songs in the Hot 100 top ten so far, topping the chart in 2007 with "Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin')"...


The last entry on the list at #96 is Ariana Grande with her version of "Last Christmas". While the Wham! original never made the chart, the cast of Glee took the song to #63...



And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top 40 radio panel, Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" spends a second week on top....

Rapper Flo Rida is back at #38 with "How I Feel" from his upcoming The Perfect 10 album. Out of three singles, non have made the Hot 100 as yet...


 Ariana Grande makes this format list at #39 with "Right There" with rapper Big Sean...


...and at #40 is New York indie-pop duo A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera with "Say Something"...


Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, Avicii makes it a second week at #1 with "Wake Me Up!"...

The sole entry at #38 is singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat with "Hold On". She went to #1 with her debut single "Bubbly" in 2007...


Lastly,on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy-listening") chart, Katy Perry is on top for a fourth week with "Roar"...

Kelly Clarkson puts two more titles on this list with "Underneath The Tree" at #16. First at #23 is her take on "Blue Christmas"...


Indiana University a cappella alums Straight No Chaser sleigh in at #28 with "Wonderful Christmastime" with the song's author, Paul McCartney...


Finally, at #30, is Kelly Clarkson again with "Please Come Home For Christmas (Bells Will Be Ringing)"...
