Rock Sweep: December 7, 2013...

Part two of this week's "chart sweeps" is up, and this time out I've got the latest songs on the rock radio charts in Billboard magazine.

On the main Rock Airplay chart, Cage The Elephant spend a third week at #1 with "Come A Little Closer"...

The top entry at #40 is "Heavy Bells" by Tennessee-based rock band J Roddy Walston and the Business. The song already is at #26 on the Alternative chart...

Heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold followup of their #7 hit "Hail To The King" with "Shepherd Of Fire" at #43...

AWOLnation are back at #44 with the fourth single from their expanded Megalithic Symphony album, "Thiskidsnotalright". The first, "Sail", went to #4 two years ago (and still is in the pop top-40)...

The last entry on the main list at #48 is Swedish DJ and dance music artist Avicii with the follow-up to his top-10 folktronica hit "Wake Me Up". "Hey Brother" features vocals from Dan Tyminski from the bluegrass band Union Station...

....and now on to the individual format sub-charts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, Danish metal band Volbeat climb to the top with "Lola Montez". It's now their fourth #1 mainstream rock hit..

Industrial metal band Filter come in at #38 with the second single from their The Sun Comes Out Tonight album, "Surprise". It follows "What Do You Say", which went to #16 earlier this year..

Salt Lake City hard rock act Royal Bliss are back at #39 with "Cry Sister". Back in 2008 they went to #25 with "Save Me"...

The last entry at #40 is "You Are Not (Lonely)" from Young Guns. Earlier this year they topped the chart in this format with "Bones"...

Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, the aforementioned "Come A Little Closer" hangs in for a third week at #1, and there are no new entries...

Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Pearl Jam's "Sirens" is on top for a third week...

The only debut at #30 is from Imagine Dragons with "On Top Of The World"....

The mag got rid of their "Active Rock" and "Heritage Rock" charts pretty unceremoniously. Boo!

That's it for the rock side of things...I'll be back with the newest R&B songs on the radio...rock on!
