Pop Sweep: April 13, 2013...

Hey gang...I'm back from a week's vacation, so I'll try my best to catch up with my "music sweeps", and bring back my oldies posts next week. First off, last week's "pop sweep" checking out the new songs making the charts in Billboard magazine on the pop side of things...

On the big chart, the Hot 100, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis hang on to #1 for a sixth non-consecutive week (and I despise saying that because of the fiasco of the magazine's "Harlem Shake" stunt) with "Thrift Shop"..

Rocketing into the top-10 with her first charting single is actress Ariana Grande, who has been a star on Nickelodeon shows Victorious and iCarly, but now she has a more mature sound on "The Way" at #10 featuring rapper Mac Miller. It's been compared to Mariah Carey's mid-career "street" records (the ones that were based on samples)....

Blake Shelton returned to the Voice last week as a mentor, and as his new album was released, one of the tracks "Boys 'Round Here" featuring Pistol Annies (with his wife Miranda Lambert) arrives at #67. Product. Shitty product.

As Fall Out Boy's "comeback" single "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark" sticks around in the top-40, their next single "The Phoenix" enters at #80, and it's my "Pop Pick of the Week". This upcoming album is gonna be epic....

The last entry on the big chart at #98 is British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran, with his second Hot 100 hit "Lego House", from his excellent debut disc "+"....

...and now on to the radio genre charts...

On the Mainstream Pop radio chart, Bruno Mars climbs to the top with "When I Was Your Man"....

The top entry at #26 is Justin Timberlake with the sole highlight from his 20/20 Experience album, "Mirrors"....

will.i.am is back at #31 with "#THATPOWER" featuring Justin Bieber. Ugh.

The former #1 US dance/UK pop single "I Could Be The One" by Swedish dance act Avicii with Dutch DJ Nicky Romero comes in at #35...

Further messing with Billboard's new whacked out cross-over rules allowing pop radio play to affect the country music charts, Florida Georgia Line's recent #1 country hit "Cruise" gets the "remix" treatment tacking rapper Nelly on it and plopping down in this chart at #38.

The final entry of the week here at #40 is pop/rock band Hot Chelle Rae with "Hung Up"...

Meanwhile, over on the Adult-Top 40 format list, Maroon 5 remain on top for week #4 with "Daylight"...

The big debut at #38 is the crossover modern rock hit "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons, which is topping the rock charts this week...

...and making their way on to the "adult" pop chart at #39 are the New Kids On The Block with "Remix (I Like The)"...

lastly, following on Mumford heels are British folk-rockers the Dunwells at #40 with "I Could Be A King"...

Finally, over on the Adult Contemporary chart, Phillip Phillips racks up an 11th week on top while there are no debuts on the list..

I'll return later with the latest on rock radio....
