Rock Sweep: January 5, 2013...

Welcome back to part two of this week's "chart sweeps" of the newest music making it to Billboard magazine's weekly singles charts...this time out it's the latest on rock radio...

On the aggregate Rock Airplay chart, Muse takes back the #1 spot for a third non-consecutive week with "Madness"...

The top entry this week is by hard rocking northwesterners Alice In Chains, with their brand new track "Hollow" at #34. It's filled to the brim with grungy badness, and I'm happy they still eschew the "mainstream route"...

Debuting at #44 is British art-rock group alt-J, with "Fitzpleasure", which is already in the top-30 on the "alt" chart...

The final new entry is already a top-20 hit on the "mainstream rock" format, "Alive" by Adelitas Way....

Meanwhile on the Modern Rock/Alternative tracks format chart, the aforementioned "Madness" stays on top for a twelfth week..

The top debut is by Massachusetts indie-pop group Passion Pit, who are still in the top-10 on this chart with "Take A Walk". Their latest, "Carried Away", comes in at #36...

The other new song at #40 is from folk-rockers Family Of The Year, who linger right under the top-10 on the Triple-A chart, with their first hit, "Hero"...

On the Mainstream Rock format, Soundgarden's "Been Away Too Long" stays at #1 for a third week, and the aforementioned Alice In Chains song is the only debut at #29...

Over at the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster-rock") format chart, the Lumineers ascend to the top with their second single to do so, "Stubborn Love", while the only new entry is Passion Pit's older modern rock hit, "Take A Walk" at #30...

On the "Active Rock" radio format, Soundgarden stays at #1 for a second week, and Alice In Chains' "Hollow" is the top debut at #28...

Canadian hard rockers Three Days Grace follow up their #1 AR hit "Chalk Outline" with "The High Road" at #38...

Lastly, the Dropkick Murphys close the holidays out at #40 with "The Season's Upon Us"...

On the last rock chart, "Heritage Rock", Soundgarden makes it a trifecta by going to #1 for its first week. Also, Alice In Chains are the big new entry at #19.

The other debut at #25 is Pennsylania hard rock group Halestorm with "Freak Like Me". Their "I Miss The Misery" is still in the top-10 here...

That does it for part two....I'll be back in an hour and a half with the latest on the R&B side... Rock on!
