Rock Sweep: December 22, 2012...

Hey gang, I'm back with part two of today's "chart sweeps" of the latest songs making the Billboard music charts, and now it's up to the rock side of things.

On the composite Rock Airplay chart, Muse hangs on for a second week at #1 with "Madness"...

The solitary entry on the chart is by veteran Celtic punk-rockers Dropkick Murphys with their holiday party "The Season's Upon Us" at #49. The comical and sarcastic take on Christmas tradition is actually the cult-fave band's first appearance on a Billboard radio chart (they "bubbled under" the Hot 100 in 2007 with "I'm Shipping Up To Boston", stopping one rung under the big chart!)...

Over on the Modern Rock/Alternative chart, the aforementioned "Madness" remains at the top for a tenth non-consecutive week, and there are no new songs...

On the Mainstream Rock format, Soundgarden take over the #1 spot with "Been Away Too Long" their fifth #1 hit here (their first was "Black Hole Sun" back in 1994), and also there isn't any new entries...

At the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster radio") format list, Philip Phillips remains at #1 for a fifth week with "Home"...

Two songs manage their way here, and the first is by Canadian pop/rock group Lifehouse, with "Between The Raindrops" featuring Australian singer Natasha Bedingfield. This is their third hit on this chart - "Halfway Gone" made it to #15 in 2010..I like this band when they're moody, and they deliver here...

Mumford & Sons return at #30 with the title track from their #1 album Babel. It follows "I Will Wait", their first #1 here earlier this year...

On the Active Rock format, Shinedown claim a third #1 as "Enemies" climbs to the top as nothing new comes in..

Finally, on the Heritage Rock format chart, Three Days Grace's "Chalk Outline" is at #1 for a ninth non-consecutive week.

The single new entry on the Heritage chart is glam-rock legends Kiss with "Long Way Down". They took "Modern Day Delilah" to #11 here in 2009. It's OK, if nothing earthshaking from the band on autopilot...

That's it for the rock side of the house...I'll be back with the latest on R&B radio...
