Robbed Hit of the Week 12/17/12: Psychedelic Furs' "Love My Way"...
Psychedelic Furs - "Love My Way"
from the album Forever Now (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #44
This week's "robbed hit" with the first chart single in the US for British new-wave group Psychedelic Furs, who started out as a punk outfit in London in the late 70s. Their self-titled debut album in 1979 scored the band (led by brothers Richard and Tim Butler) a minor US dance hit with "We Love You", while second single "Sister Europe" was also a minor hit Down Under in Australia and New Zealand.
Their second album pushed them squarely in the new wave movement, and in return "Dumb Waiters" became their first British hit single, reaching #59. It's followup, "Pretty In Pink", would be well-known in the US due to the John Hughes movie named after the song. The accompanying album, Talk Talk Talk, reached the top-half of the American album chart as well.
The Furs went in with producer Todd Rundgren to record their third album Forever Now, and the lush, melodic result can be seen on the first single, "Love My Way"...
While the song made the top-40 on the American dance and rock radio chart, "Love My Way" stalled right under that mark on both the US and the UK singles charts. The band would come close two more times before finally reaching the goal in 1987 with "Heartbreak Beat".

In 1987 William Orbit did a club version of the song on his debut album...
That does it for tonight....I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day, candletime, 10 more of the best of 2012, and my French and German music recaps. Goodnight!
