Songoftheday 8/4/18 - Lonely sidewalks silent night, bring the evening deep inside...

"Love Is On The Way" - Saigon Kick
from the album The Lizard (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #12 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 15

Today's song of the day comes from the heavy metal band Saigon Kick, who came together in Florida in the late 1980. With lead singer Matt Kramer and guitarist Jason Bieler, the group released their self-titled debut album in 1991. However, it wasn't until the following year, well after the "golden age" of hair metal, that they finally got mainstream success with their second effort The Lizard. The requisite power-ballad from the record, "Love Is On The Way", was written and produced by Bieler, and the straight-forward love song caught on with radio who plugged it into the vacant spot in their playlist for that type of record...

"Love Is On The Way" became Saigon Kick's first and only top-40 pop hit, reaching the top 20 in December of 1992. The single also climbed to #8 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. In Canada, the single peaked under the top-40 at #48 for two weeks. The band's follow-up single, "All I Want", reached #15 on the Mainstream Rock list, but only "bubbled under" the pop Hot 100 at #115. Even with this success, the group fought during the recording of their third set Water, causing Kramer to leave and Bieler taking over as lead singer, but after the set tanked they were dropped by their label. Resigning to CMC, the home of many eschewed rock bands, they released another album Devil In The Details, and then a couple of indie records for the Asian market, the most recent being Bastards in 1999. Kramer rejoined the band in 2012 for a tour, and still is with them.
