Songoftheday 8/20/18 - More than ever you're on my mind, being lonely ought to be a crime, watching TV to pass the time...

"I Wish The Phone Would Ring" - Exposé
from the album Exposé (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #28 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 7

Today's song of the day comes from the Miami-based freestyle dance trio Exposé, who had again scored four top-40 pop hits from their second album What You Don't Know with "Your Baby Never Looked Good In Blue", "Tell Me Why", "When I Looked At Him", and "What You Don't Know". However, when they were touring behind that album, member Gioia Bruno fell ill and lost her voice, causing her to leave the group, who brought in Kelly Moneymaker as the third vocalist. With her on board, the group released their self-titled third album Exposé in the fall of 1992. The lead single from the record would be the mid-tempo new jack-ish dance track "I Wish The Phone Would Ring". Written by Michael Jay and Marvin Murrow, and produced by Steve Thompson and Michael Barbiero (who were more well-known in the rock world), the song was led by Jeannette Jurado. (Unfortunately, the original music video is unavailable on YouTube. Boo!)...

"I Wish The Phone Would Ring" became Expose's ninth top-40 pop hit in December of 1992. Internationally, the single spent four weeks at #49 in Canada.

And here's the group performing the song live in 2010...

Up tomorrow: That voice with that song that captured America's heart with her eternal love.
