Songoftheday 12/3/15 - You see I haven't been the same since that cold November day, we said we needed space but all we found was an empty place...

"Where Do Broken Hearts Go" - Whitney Houston
from the album Whitney (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13

Today's song of the day comes from Whitney Houston, whose sophomore effort Whitney had already scored her three #1 pop hits in America with "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)", "Didn't We Almost Have It All", and "So Emotional". Continuing the pattern with dance song, ballad, dance song, her fourth single from the album was the ballad "Where Do Broken Hearts Go". Written by Frank Wildhorn (who would go on to write the hit stage musical Jeckyll & Hyde) and Chuck Jackson, the tale of heartbreak again yo-yo'd the emotional state of the album...

"Where Do Broken Hearts Go" became the fourth #1 from Whitney (and her seventh consecutive chart-topper overall) in April of 1988, making a record for the rock era that hasn't been broken. The song also spent three weeks atop Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, and peaked at #2 on their R&B list. Internationally, the record made the top 10 in Ireland (#2) and Canada (#6). #14 in the UK, top-30 in Italy, Spain, Belgium, and New Zealand, but it stopped short at #48 Down Under in Australia.
