Today's SOTD is by the Swedish glam metal band Europe, whose 1986 single "The Final Countdown", the title track to their third album, broke big in America and landed them a top-10 pop hit. The follow-up single, "Rock The Night", was less anthemic and more typical metal that originally was released on the soundtrack to the Swedish film On The Loose. Written by lead singer Joey Tempest, the video had them carousing in a Hard Rock Cafe'...


"Rock The Night" became Europe's second American top-40 pop hit in June of 1987, while climbing to #22 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. Internationally, the song did much better, reaching the top-10 in France, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, and their native Sweden, while topping off at #12 in the UK.
