"Jammin' Me" - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
from the album Let Me Up (I've Had Enough) (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #18 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6

Today's SOTD comes from the Florida-bred rock band Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, who were last seen with a top-40 cover of "Needles And Pins" with Stevie Nicks in 1986. The following year, Petty and the band released their seventh studio album Let Me Up (I've Had Enough). The first single from the record, "Jammin' Me", was co-written by Petty with band guitarist Mike Campbell along with rock legend Bob Dylan, in a free-flow word toss that even name-checked the oddest of celebrities to be called out in a rock song...

"Jammin' Me" reached the top-20 on the American pop chart in June of 1987, but its biggest success was on rock radio, where the single went to #1 for a month between May and June. Surprisingly, north of the border the song stopped one rung short of the top-40 at #41.
