Songoftheday 5/4/15 - Would someone please explain the reason for this strange behavior?
"Skin Trade" - Duran Duran
from the album Notorious (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #39 (one week)
Weeks in the top-40: 1
Today's SOTD comes from the British new romantic band Duran Duran, who were pared down to a trio by 1986 for their Notorious album. Keyboardist Nick Rhodes, bass player John Taylor, and Simon LeBon trudged on with the help of former Missing Persons guitarist Warren Cuccurullo, and the title track from the album climbed to #3 on the American pop chart. The follow-up single, "Skin Trade", also produced by Nile Rodgers (who does give a bit of "Like A Virgin" synth to this), was a loose, funkier track than their usual fare....
"Skin Trade" popped into the American pop Top-40 for a week in March of 1987, while climbing to #22 in their native Britain. The record did make the top-10 in Italy and Ireland, and top-40 in Germany, New Zealand, and The Netherlands. Looking back, the record is one of their best, and deserved a better reception at the time (it has since become a fan favorite and a fave of mine as well)...

Here's the band preparing for their tour behind the album in 1987 for a documentary...
..and the finished result a year later...
and finally, more recently (and with Roger Taylor on drums) for their Songbook show in 2009...
Up tomorrow: a Boston rocker wants you "as is".
