Songoftheday 5/21/15 - Looking out for love in the night so still, Oh I'll build you a kingdom in that house on the hill...

"Big Love" - Fleetwood Mac
from the album Tango In The Night (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #5 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11

Today's SOTD comes from the British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, who last were here with their 1982 album Mirage, which scored a trio of top-40 pop hits in the U.S. including the #4 single "Hold Me". After a long five-year break that saw members Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks (twice) release successful solo albums, the band reappeared in 1987 with their Tango In The Night set. Starting out as another Buckingham solo album, the first single from the project, "Big Love", carried over his experimental sonics and time signatures, and with Mick Fleetwood and John McVie's legendary rhythm section along to anchor the pulse of the song, it pushed the limits of what "Fleetwood Mac's sound" was. And to charm MTV, the brought a half-million-dollar music video to the party...

"Big Love" became Fleetwood Mac's eighth top-ten pop hit in America in May of 1987. The single also crossed over to both the Mainstream Rock (#2) and Adult Contemporary (#23) radio charts in Billboard magazine (their biggest hit on the rock chart since its inception in 1981). Internationally, the record went to the top-10 in England, as well as Ireland, the Netherlands, and Belgium, and stopped at #12 in Canada.

"Big Love" was the band's first foray into the clubs; here's the extended version with more Stevie...

When Lindsey rejoined the band for The Dance in 1997, he brought back "Big Love" re-invented to feature his amazing guitar work, which made me appreciate the song even more...

..and lastly, Lindsey again in 2008 along with a re-do of his solo hit "Go Insane"...

Up tomorrow: Some guys into morning victuals are keeping to the plan.
