"Talk Dirty To Me" - Poison
from the album Look What The Cat Dragged In (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9

Today's SOTD is by the glam-metal band Poison, who came made up and pouffed out from the heartland of central Pennsylvania to land in Los Angeles to take advantage of the bustling hard rock club scene. With lead singer Bret Michaels, drummer Ricki Rockett, and bass player Bobby Dall, the band recruited L.A. local C.C. Deville after their original guitarist left. They released their debut album Look What The Cat Dragged In in the summer of 1986, but after a first single, "Cry Tough", that stiffed, it wasn't until the spring of next year that they broke through with the follow-up. "Talk Dirty To Me", written by the band and produced by Ric Browde, had the right combination of playful antics and guitar crunch to grab the kids' attention and enough hinted nastiness without actually saying anything to get played on pop radio...

"Talk Dirty To Me" became Poison's big break, hitting the pop top ten in the U.S. in May of 1987. In fact, the record was so mainstream-oriented that it failed to even make the rock radio chart in Billboard magazine. Internationally, the song reached the same peak in Canada, and was a minor hit in Australia and the UK.
