Songoftheday 4/9/15 - You've heard about my reputation, you might think that I'm cold as ice...

"Facts Of Love" - Jeff Lorber featuring Karyn White
from the album Private Passion (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #27 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 5

Today's song of the day comes from the lite-jazz musician and performer Jeff Lorber, who went from a suburban Philly upbringing to releasing his first album as the Jeff Lorber Fusion in 1977. He released five albums with the Fusion before embarking on a truly solo career, with his debut solo set coming out in 1982. Two years later, the title cut off of his Step By Step album, with Audrey Wheeler singing, went to #4 on the dance club play chart and #31 on the R&B list in Billboard. Trying to build on that success, Lorber's label Warner Brothers got his next album, Private Passion, stacked with vocals from former Tower of Power vocalist Michael Jeffries and a newcomer by the name of Karyn White. The backup singer had her first moment to shine on the single "Facts Of Love", which was written by the team of Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken, who would go on become a charting act of their own as the R.Y.T.H.M. Syndicate with "P.A.S.S.I.O.N."...

"Facts Of Love" became Lorber's sole top-40 pop hit in February of 1987, while scaling to #9 on the Dance Club Play list and #17 on the R&B chart. While Jeff wouldn't have another pop hit, Karyn would become a decent R&B/pop hitmaker in the late 80s/early 90s, with five more top-40 pop hits of her own, including the #1 "Romantic" in 1991.
