Songoftheday 4/15/15 - Meet me in a restaurant, meet me on the top of the world, meet me and we'll talk the language of love...

"Let's Go!" - Wang Chung
from the album Mosaic (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11

Today's Song of the Day comes from the British group Wang Chung, who pared down to a duo, brightened their smiles and turned their emo new wave to party pop and landed a #2 pop hit in America with "Everybody Have Fun Tonight". Their follow-up was just as festive; "Let's Go!", written by lead singer Jack Hues and guitarist Nick Feldman, sounds in place more with Starship and Mr. Mister than Depeche Mode and New Order. With a video clearly inspired by Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time", though it's still uncomfortable to see Hues paste on that grin...

"Let's Go" became Wang Chung's second top-10 pop hit in the U.S. in April of 1987. The track also climbed to #18 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart, and did the best on the Dance Club Play list at #4. Internationally, while the single equaled its American success in Canada, and peaked at #19 in New Zealand, it didn't even make the top-75 in their native Brtiain.
