"Big Time" - Peter Gabriel
from the album So (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #8 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11
Today's Song of the Day comes from progressive rock veteran Peter Gabriel, who channeled the funk on his fourth album So and nabbed a #1 pop hit with "Sledgehammer" and a top-40 follow-up with "In Your Eyes". For the third single from the album Gabriel released "Big Time", which amped the groove as well as the visuals, using some of the same camera tricks used in his iconic "Sledgehammer" video with even more, and this over the top show of megalomania is even done better...
"Big Time" became Peter's second top ten pop hit in March of 1987, while scaling to #3 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. Internationally, the single went top-20 in his native Britain, as well as in Belgium, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. It remains my favorite song of his.
