Songoftheday 3/20/15 - Lately you've been running away from me, don't you think you're acting too tough?

"Talk To Me" - Chico DeBarge
from the album Chico DeBarge (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #21 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11

Today's Song of the Day comes from R&B singer Chico DeBarge, the younger sibling of the family vocal group who had already had their run of five top-40 pop hits before he released his own self-titled debut in 1986. The first single from the set, "Talk To Me", was a bouncy pop/dance track that sounded more like Janet Jackson than the smooth soul of DeBarge proper...

"Talk To Me" became Chico's first and only top-40 pop hit in February of 1987. The single also climbed to #7 on the R&B chart in Billboard, and landed at #11 on its Dance Club Play chart as well.

After a second album netted a top-20 hit with "Rainy Night", problems with drug addiction that also plagued his siblings knocked him out of action as well, not releasing another album for about a decade. In 1999 he made it to #11 on the R&B chart with "Give You What You Want (Fa Sure)", which also popped in on the pop list at #71. He's released a few more albums since, most recently on the singles chart in 2009 with "Oh No" (#21 Adult R&B, #76 R&B).

Up tomorrow: Flint funksters wear you out with romance.
