Songoftheday 3/14/15 - Full moon in the city and the night was young, I was hungry for love I was hungry for fun,,,

"Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" - Samantha Fox
from the album Touch Me (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #4 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13

Today's Song of the Day comes from Samantha Fox, a British "glamour model" who turned a topless stint on the Sun into a lucrative and enjoyable pop music career. Appearing in the tabloid at the crazy-ass age of 16 (her parents signed off on this, mind), Fox was the biggest of the girls gracing "page three" of the rag. Leaving the "modeling" part behind at 20 (in England, for some reason, being a nudie model gets you celebrity status, even these days), Fox went back to her theater-school roots and released her first album in 1986. The title track, "Touch Me", wasn't Shakespeare, but it got its point across. Written by the song's producers Jon Alstrop and Pete Harris with Mark Shreeve, the seductive track is notable for Fox's not-so-horrible vocals in the days before Auto-Tune....

"Touch Me" became Fox's first big hit in America right out of the box (pun not intended), reaching the top-5 on the pop chart in February of 1987, while just missing the top-40 on the dance club chart at #41. Internationally the record was huge, hitting #1 in Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Norway, Finland and Sweden (for eight weeks), and stopped at #3 in her native England.

Twenty-two years later, Swedish "singer" Gunther remade "Touch Me" with Fox backing him up and again topped the Swedish singles chart in 2004...

...and here she is, actually live (take that, Britney!) in 2007...
