Billy Joel - "Modern Woman"
from the albums Ruthless People (Original Soundtrack) and The Bridge (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #10 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9

Today's Song of the Day is by singer/songwriter/piano man Billy Joel, who spent 1985 capping off a hugely successful career with a double-set greatest hits album that eventually became one of the biggest selling albums of all time, and spun off two top-40 hits of its own with "You're Only Human" and "The Night Is Still Young". The following year Billy released his tenth studio album, The Bridge, collaborating with producer Phil Ramone. The first single from the project was a song from the soundtrack to the Bette Midler/Danny DeVito comedy Ruthless People. "Modern Woman", written by the artist, is your typical uptempo 80s comedy background music fodder, that even Joel disavows today...

"Modern Woman" became Billy's ninth top-10 pop hit in the U.S. in July of 1986. The single also crossed over to both the Mainstream Rock (#34) and Adult Contemporary (#7) radio charts in Billboard magazine. Internationally, the record was a moderate top-40 hit in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
