Brit Sweep: November 30, 2014...
The end of the long Thanksgiving weekend (for some) is here, and it's time to check out the songs making their debut on the official singles chart in the United Kingdom this week...
The biggest song in Britain and my "Brit Pick of the Week" is the newest single from veteran boys-to-men band Take That, who land their first #1 hit as a trio (Jason Orange left the group this year and Robbie Williams couldn't participate) with "These Days". It's the act's twelfth chart-topping hit in the UK and fourth since re-forming in 2006. Their last #1 hit, "Greatest Day", came in 2008...

British R&B artist Labrinth lands at #7 with "Jealous", the first single from his upcoming second album Take Me To The Truth. The first, "Let It Be", stopped one rung short of the top-10 earlier this year...
Speaking of missing the top-10, the collaboration between boy-bands McFly and Busted (save Busted lead singer Charlie Simpson), billed as "McBusted", enters at #12 with "Air Guitar". It's of note that if the official "chart" was sales-based only (and not including streaming, which just started recently), this would've been at #10, making it McFly's 20th and Busted 9th single to make that level. The pair has eleven #1 hits between them..
A track from the score of the biggest movie of the weekend, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 sees actress Jennifer Lawrence (as her character Katniss) land her first chart hit with "The Hanging Tree" with score composer and conductor James Newton Howard...
English singer/songwriter James Bay, from the London-suburban county of Hertfordshire, gets his first top-40 record with "Hold Back The River" at #18...
London electro-pop trio Years & Years come in at #22 with their first big hit of their own, "Desire". Singer Olly Alexander (as Years & Years) appeared on the top-10 hit "Sunlight" by the Magician...
As David Guetta's new album Listen arrives at #8 on the albums chart, another track from the set, "What I Did For Love", enters at #24. It features vocals from Scottish singer Emeli Sande'. Guetta's current radio single, "Dangerous", drops from #5 to #9 this week...
Canadian-born singer Kiesza dances in at #30 with her third UK top-40 hit, "No Enemiesz". She topped the chart earlier this year with the classic "Hideaway"...
As Beyonce's self-titled album from last year gets an expanded re-release, three new cuts from the set sell/stream enough to make the chart. First up at #36 is "7/11", becoming the third top-40 hit from the album after "Drunk In Love" (which also re-enters the chart at #70) and "XO"...
Also arriving at #65 is her remix of "Flawless" featuring Nicki Minaj...
Ariana Grande spreads some early Christmas cheer as "Santa Tell Me" sleighs in at #79...
The final debut of the week is the third of the Beyonce newbies with "Ring Off"..
That's all for tonight...cheers!
