Songoftheday 11/9/14 - I was feeling like a prisoner inside myselfI saw you, lookin' like you might be in a mood to try anything...
.38 Special - "Like No Other Night"
from the album Strength In Numbers (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #14 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9
Today's Song of the Day is from the southern rock band .38 Special, who were on the charts in 1984 with their song "Teacher Teacher" from the Teachers soundtrack. After a two-week break they re-emerged with Strength In Numbers, a big-sounding mainstream rock album produced by Keith Olsen (Heart, Starship). The first single pulled from the project, "Like No Other Night", was a by-the-numbers rhythm guitar crunching rocker co-written by band members Don Barnes and Jeff Carlisi with Bryan Adams' go-to Jim Vallance...
"Like No Other Night" became .38 Special's 'lucky' seventh top-40 pop hit in July of 1986, while climbing to #4 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart.
And I've got to say the whole album, although capitulating to mainstream pop tastes, is damn solid. And boy did I ever have the hots for these guys back in the day. Oofdah.

...and here's the band performing the song live in 2011...
Up tomorrow: Philly boys and a Scandalous singer ask about the location of the offspring.
