Robbed hit of the week 5/19/14 - Mary Jane Girls' "Wild and Crazy Love"...

Mary Jane Girls - "Wild and Crazy Love"
from the album Only Four You (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #42

This week's "robbed hit" is by the R&B quartet formed by Rick James, the Mary Jane Girls, who did even better than their mentor by reaching the top-ten on the pop chart in 1985 with "In My House". Their follow-up single, "Wild And Crazy Love", was written by Rick with musician Kenny Hawkins...

While "Wild and Crazy Love" reached the top-10 on both Billboard's R&B (#10) and dance (#3) charts, the track stopped short of the pop top-40 in August of 1985. The single also made the top-40 in Belgium. I think the women's thin voices weren't strong enough to ride James' ultra-tight fast groove to capture the mainstream's attention.
