German Sweep: May 27, 2014...

I'm ready to cross the border into Germany to check out the songs making the official singles chart this week....

There's a new #1 on the list, and it's from rapper Cro from the southern city of Aalen with "Traum" ("Dream"). The man who dons an eerie panda mask has had one other #1 hit with "Whatever" from 2013...

This week's chart sees the effect of Eurovision, as a dozen songs from the show join Germany's own entry, Elaiza's "Is It Right" (which moves up to #8) on to the chart. Germany ended up at 18th in the finals, and neighboring Holland, who placed second in the competition and got the highest vote in Germany, has of course the highest entry of the songs at #3 with "Calm After The Storm" from the Common Linnets...

The song that won the night, Conchita Wurst's "Rise Like A Phoenix", ensures the Eurovision will be held in neighboring Austria next year, and the song makes the chart here at #5...

British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran leaps in at #7 with his latest, "Sing". His contribution to The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug movie, "I See Fire", went all the way to #2 in this country...

The fourth entry in the top-10 at #10 is singer/songwriter Mark Forster with rapper Sido with "Au Revoir"...

Eurovision's third-place finalist, Sweden's Sanna Nielsen, comes in at #32 with "Undo"....

Austrian electronica duo Klangkarussell return at #34 with "Netzwerk (Falls Like Rain)". It follows "Sonnentanz", which went to #4 in this country in 2012...

German rapper Kollegah benefits from his tracks being available before the his fourth album King's release with twelve of its tracks entering the chart. First up at #36 is "Du Bist Boss" ("You Are the Boss")...

British singer Sam Smith takes his #1 UK hit "Stay With Me" to these shores at #39....

The Armenian entry to Eurovision, "Not Alone" from singer Aram MP3, came in fourth in the contest, and here it drives in at #44...

Below that at #45 is Kollegah's "Lamborghini Kickdown" ...

and at #46 is him again with "Karate" with Casper...

Back to Eurovision at #48 is Norway's entry "Silent Storm" by big bear Carl Espen, who placed eighth on the show...

The Eurovision host country's entry, "Cliche' Love Song" by Basim from neighboring Denmark, dances in at #50. They got the third-most points from Germany in the contest, and ended up a respectable 9th overall...

Swiss house music DJ/producer DJ Antoine returns at #53 with "Light It Up". Back in 2011 he went to #3 in this country with "Welcome To St. Tropez"...

Kollegah is in at #59 with "Königsaura" (King Aura)...

and he's in again at #61 with "Cohibas blauer Dunst"  (Cohibas Blue Haze) with Farid Bang...(no clip available), while he enters at #63 with "Flightmode"..

French DJ Bob Sinclar teams up with supermodel Gisele (Bundschen) for a cover of  Blondie's "Heart Of Glass" at #73...

The next Kollegah track is "R.I.P." at #75...

The Eurovision finalist from Switzerland, "Hunter Of Stars" by Sebalter, ended up 13th overall, and comes in here at #77....

Rapper Marteria is back at #78 with "Welt der Wunder" ("World Of Wonder")...

Softengine, Finland's entrant into Eurovision pushes in at #80 with "Something Better", which ended up in 11th place...

A favorite of mine in the competition, "Coming Home" by Malta's finalist Firelight, arrives here at #83. They finished 23rd (criminally, I think)..

And now we're back to Kollegah at #86 with "Morgengrauen" ("Dawn")...

The French entry to Eurovision, "Moustache" from Twin Twin, got no love from Europe, finishing last in the finals with a measly two points giving (neither by Germany), yet the song makes the top-100 here at #89...

Kollegah's "Sanduhr" ("Hourglass") comes in at #91 (no clip available), and "Es Is Rap" (no clip available) is in at #92...

The Hungarian Eurovision finalist, "Running" from Andras Kallay-Saunders, made #5 in the finals, and is here at #93...

The United Kingdom sent Molly to Eurovision with "Children Of The Universe", and while she ended up in 17th place, she's here at #94...

Back to Kollegah at #95 with "Rolex Daytona" featuring American rapper the Game...

The rapper's "Universalgenie" is in at #97...

One notch under that is "Schwarzer Benz" ("Black Benz")...

and finally at #100 is Kollegah's "Omega"...

One thing to note - Poland's entry to Eurovision, the horrid "We Are Slavic", got 2nd place in Germany, yet the single didn't even make the top 100. Hmmmmm....
