Songoftheday 11/8/13 - I never meant to cause you any sorrow, I never meant to cause you any pain..

Prince & The Revolution - "Purple Rain"
from the album Purple Rain (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #2 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11

"Purple Rain" stopped just short of the top spot on the pop chart in the US in November of 1984, and #4 on the R&B chart as well. The single went top ten over most of the world, like #8 in the UK and #3 in Canada, though curiously stopped right under the top-40 in Australia.

Since then the track has been one of the most-revered of Prince's, akin to being his "Hey Jude" moment.

...and most recently, Dami Im, winner of this last season of Australia's version of the show, performed "Purple Rain" and went to #29 in that country's singles charts...
