David Bowie - "Blue Jean"
from the album Tonight (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #8 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10

Today's song of the Day is by David Bowie, who made a big pop "comeback" in 1983 with his Nile Rodgers-produced Let's Dance album, which spawned off three big hit singles, with the #1 title track, top-ten follow-up "China Girl", and #14 hat trick "Modern Love". After a hugely successful tour, Bowie brought on producers Hugh Padgham and Derek Bramble and recorded Tonight, his 16th album. The first song released from the set, "Blue Jean", was written solely by the artist and got the big promo treatment on MTV, where the 21-minute short film directed by Julien Temple would premiere, eventually being pared down to its normal music video length...

Blue Jean would become David's last solo top ten pop hit in America in November of 1984, while going almost to the top at #2 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock radio chart. In England, the track went to #6, and it reached the top ten in Canada, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands....
