Songoftheday 11/19/13 - I can wait another day until I call you, you only got my heart on a string and everything a flutter...

Paul McCartney - "No More Lonely Nights"
from the album Give My Regards To Broad Street (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #6 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14

Today's Song of the Day is from Sir Paul McCartney, who had a huge #1 collaboration with Michael Jackson in 1983 with "Say Say Say", then followed it with the underrated gem "So Bad". The following year Paul released a film he had written and acted in after recording the Pipes Of Peace album, Give My Regards To Broad Street. With his wife Linda and fellow ex-Beatle Ringo Starr and his wife Barbara Bach, the movie was a fluff piece of entertainment with reprises of Beatles and McCartney songs scattered within the plot. One of the four originals on the soundtrack, and the only single released, was the song "No More Lonely Nights", which features a guitar solo from Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, and one of his most memorable melodies of the 80s...

"No More Lonely Nights" reached the top-10 on the American pop chart in December of 1984, while topping out at #2 on the adult-contemporary (easy-listening) chart in Billboard. He also did well with rock radio, peaking at #16 on that format, too. Over in his native England, the single also went to #2.

As for the movie, well, it's definitely not a keeper, unless you're a Beatles fanatic...

"No More Lonely Nights" appeared on the soundtrack twice, the second in a remixed "Playout Version" worked over by dance king Arthur Baker...
