Cyndi Lauper - "All Through The Night"
from the album She's So Unusual (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #5 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14

Today's Song of the Day was the fourth single from Cyndi Lauper's debut album She's So Unusual. After the jubilant "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", the classy "Time After Time", and the diddling romp of "She Bop", Cyndi released a song written by Jules Shear that brought her back to the adult-pop fold while having enough synth magic to still capture the kids' attention, "All Through The Night". Her subtle vocal acrobatics gave the song a new life...

"All Through The Night" became Cyndi's fourth top-5 pop song in the US in December of 1984, while going a notch higher on the adult contemporary (easy-listening) radio format and even popped in at #38 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Internationally, it was a top ten success in Canada and Austria, but stalled down at #64 in England.

Jules Shear recorded his song the prior year (before offering it to the Cars). It's a much folkier reading...

Tori Amos also covered "All Through The Night" on tour...

In 2006, German Eurodance act Novaspace went to #50 in their home country with a cover of it...

...and here's Cyndi in concert with the song..
