French Sweep: November 12, 2013...






I'm ready to cross back over the Atlantic to check out the songs making the official sales chart in France this week....

Debuting all the way up at #1 is Eminem with the fourth of his preview tracks for his Marshall Mathers 2 album (and probably the one with the most radio potential), "The Monster", his second collab with Rihanna. As for the others, lead single "Berzerk" moves back up to #17, video-game tie-in "Survival" leaps to #19, and homophobic "Rap God" jumps to #24...

The second entry in the top ten here this week belongs to Lady Gaga, with her third track from upcoming ARTPOP, "Venus", arriving at #9. The other two, "Applause" and "Do What U Want", are still in the top 40 here...


British boyband A-listers One Direction return at #22 with "Story Of My Life". It follows their highest-charting single so far, "Best Song Ever", which made it to #12 earlier this year...


The passing of Lou Reed has caused his version of his classic "Perfect Day" to enter the chart at #31. His "Walk On The Wild Side" also jumps up to a new high of #12..


Slam poet Grand Corps Malade (nee Fabien Marsaud), from the Parisian suburb of Le Blanc-Mesnil, teams up with Sandra Nkake' at #47 with "Te Manquer" ("Miss You")...


Justin Bieber's "Music Mondays" single "Recovery" comes in here at #56 this week...


Singer Olympe came in second on France's version of The Voice, where he was a fan favorite, and he's in on the chart at #70 with "C'est Facile" ("It's Easy"), my "French Pick of the Week". His cover of Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die" went to #9 on the French singles chart...


 American neo-metal band Linkin Park pairs with remixer Steve Aoki at #81 for "A Light That Never Comes"...


The last debut of the week at #100 belongs to actress, singer, and former Johnny Depp squeeze Vanessa Paradis, with "Les Espaces et Les Sentiments" ("Spaces and Feelings"). She went to #9 two years ago with "La Seine" with -M-...
