Songoftheday 8/10/23 - If I lived and breathed before you loved me, I don't recall...

"Unbroken" - Tim McGraw
from the album Set This Circus Down (2001)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #26 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 5

Today's song comes from Tim McGraw, whose sixth studio release Set This Circus Down had already spun off three #1 country radio hits that also crossed over to the top-40 on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 with "Grown Men Don't Cry", "Angry All The Time", and "The Cowboy In Me", and during that time also went to those levels with Jo Dee Messina with "Bring On The Rain".

The fourth and final single from the album would be my personal favorite, "Unbroken". Written by Annie Roboff and Holly Lamar, the song's lyrics portray someone giving thanks for a love that's made them forget all the pain in their past. It's a simple theme, but maybe the fact that its two women collaborating that makes the words paint a more clearer picture. Tim gives a nuanced bluesy vocal in the driving uptempo more pop than usual production from Byron Gallimore and James Stroud, and it made for a fine dandy two-step song. In return, radio and the public helped the song make the album a winning streak...

"Unbroken" became the fourth #1 Country Songs hit, and also fourth to make the top 40 on Billboard's Hot 100 in September of 2002.

Tim will be back to the series
