Soul Sweep: September 13, 2014...

We're at the "hump" of today's "chart sweeps" sampling the songs making the radio charts in Billboard magazine, and this time out I'm serving up the latest R&B hits on the airwaves...

On the main R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart, Jeremih spends a second week at #1 with "Don't Tell 'Em"...

Singer/songwriter Trey Songz has been working different singles at different formats, and his "Touchin' Lovin'" hip-hop track with rapper Nicki Minaj is the high debut at #41. It's one of three songs from his Trigga album on the chart this week, after "What's Best For You" (the urban contemporary hit) at #29 and "Smartphones" at #33...

Wiz Khalifa follows up his top-ten "We Dem Boys" with the record at #47, "You and Your Friends", featuring his friends Snoop Dogg and Ty Dolla $ign. Meh. Sing-songy and over auto-tuned...

British neo-house duo Disclosure and singer Sam Smith cross over to the main R&B chart at #48 with their top-10 pop hit "Latch"...

Rapper and Kardashian gypsy fodder French Montana returns to the chart at #49 with "Don't Panic". It's the first single from his upcoming Mac and Cheese 4 set. He went to #2 here in 2012 with "Pop That"...

At #50 is rapper Childish Gambino (aka actor Donald Glover) with "V.3005". The track made the pop charts at #71 last year.

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult R&B radio panel, Kem holds on top for a second week with "It's You"...

Neo-soul singer Joe comes in at #26 with "If You Lose Her". It follows "Love & Sex Part 2", which made the top-5 here...

Veteran R&B band Con Funk Shun returns at #29 with "Your Night". It's their first new music in eight years, and they deserve more than this minute-long clip...

Lastly,on the Rhythmic radio format, whose stations add more dance music into the mix, the aforementioned "Don't Tell Em" is at #1 for a second week...

Singer/actress/former Justin Bieber "girlfriend" Jasmine V (for Villegas) jumps in at #32 with "That's Me Right There" with rapper Kendrick Lamar. Forgettable Autotuned fodder...

Jason Derulo plays his "Trumpets" in at #34. The snazzy track is my "Soul Pick of the Week"...

Lastly, at #38, is Rich Gang with their top-ten R&B hit "Lifestyle" featuring Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan. You know, the more "featured artists" on a rap track, the worse it probably is....

I'll be back in 90 with the latest country songs on the radio...
