Robbed Hit of the Week 9/8/14 - The Chicago Bears' Shufflin' Crew's "The Superbowl Shuffle"...
The Chicago Bears Shufflin' Crew - "The Super Bowl Shuffle"
from the 1985 single
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #41
Yes, this happened.
As the NFL football team were enjoying their best year yet, eventually winning the Superbowl in 1986, the Chicago Bears were approached to record a charity single that playfully celebrated their greatness. Written by fan Richard Meyer, I guess the completely silly record came at just the right time, and while the video got play, the single sold like hotcakes....
I just can't.
Well, the "Superbowl Shuffle" ended up selling over a half of a million copies, going "gold" and almost reaching the top-40 on the pop chart, stopping at #41 for two weeks in February of 1986. It also popped on to the R&B singles chart at #75 as well.
The most outrageous thing about this happened when the "group" (as it were) were actually nominated for a Grammy for best R&B duo/group performance. Yes, really. So when the Grammys say they're all astute and all, there's this. (Thankfully it lost to Prince & The Revolution)

And for some VHS goodness, here's the "Making of" of the Superbowl Shuffle...
