Brit Sweep: September 7, 2014...

The end of the weekend is here, and so another recap of the latest songs to make the official singles chart in Britain begins.

French duo Lilly Wood & The Prick claim a second week at #1 with the Robin Schulz remix of their 2010 song "Prayer In C"...

The #2 spot this week is the third hit from British neo-house producer/musician Duke Dumont with "Don't Look Back". The first two, "Need U (100%)" and "I Got U", both made it to #1. Vocalist Yolanda Quartey does her best Black Box on this one...

Irish rockers the Script return at #3 with "Superheroes". It's the first single from their upcoming fourth album No Sound Without Silence. In 2012 they had their first #1 with "Hall Of Fame", no doubt helped by lead singer Danny O'Donoghue's stint as the "Adam Levine" on The Voice UK at that time...

In a sad turn of events, the song entering the chart at #11 just lost a key member today, as Robin Antin's Pussycat Dolls redo, G.R.L., just misses the top-10 with "Ugly Heart". The group supported Pitbull on his #6 UK hit "Wild Wild Love" as well. Simone Battle, who was a finalist on the X Factor in the U.S., is reported to have taken her life overnight. Damn.

Newcomers Oliver $ and Jimi Jules come in at #15 with their first hit, "Pushing On"...

Ferrick Dawn teams up with Redondo for the single "Love Too Deep" at #48...

The Scottish twin brother duo Proclaimers return to the chart at #62 with "Cap In Hand", an album cut from their Sunshine On Leith set from 1988. The song is now a fundraiser for the Scottish independence "Vote Yes" referendum...

Dance-pop singer MNEK, who was featured on Gorgon City's #4 hit "Ready For Your Love", scores his first solo hit with "Wrote A Song About You" at #66...

Two big American hits get more modest debuts on the list - first at #75 is Meghan Trainor with "All About That Bass", which I believe isn't for sale yet here, so just in on "streaming" points. I'm sure it will rise shortly...

The other American crossover is Becky G with her US top-20 "Shower", which lands here at #80...

The final new entry at #86 is Maroon 5 with "Animals". It follows "Maps", which came in last week at #2 and falls to #8 this time out...
