Sly Fox - "Let's Go All The Way"
from the album Let's Go All The Way (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #7 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14
Today's Song of the Day is brought to us by the dance-pop duo that flickers bright and very shortly in the mid-80's Sly Fox. Gary "Mudbone" Cooper, who previously sung with George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic collective, and Michael Camacho released their debut album in 1985, and the title track, "Let's Go All The Way" was its first single. Written by Cooper and produced by Ted Currier (a New York radio DJ that also produced George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" single), the beat-heavy record didn't really have anything lyrically to do with "going all the way" sexually, but vaguely about making the world better...
"Let's Go All The Way" did go all the way to the American pop top ten in April of 1986. Across the pond in Britain the single did even better, climbing to #3. And most surprisingly the album did quite respectably, reaching #31 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart, though they would only grace the pop chart once more with "Stay True" which nicked the Hot 100 at #94 (they would make the top-20 on the dance chart with "Como Tu Te Llama")...
With the album making the top-40 and the single such a big hit, it's pretty dumbfounding that the set has yet to have a re-release on CD, and the original release CD as an import is crazy crazy expensive. Considering much lesser hits get the big reissue treatment...
