Rock Sweep: September 20, 2014...

Round two of this week's "chart sweeps" is up with the latest songs on rock radio as monitored by Billboard magazine.

On the main Rock Airplay chart, Vance Joy hold at #1 for a fifth week with "Riptide"...

Crobot, the hard rock band from Pottsville, Pennsylvania, comes in at #49 with "Nowhere To Hide". The former "rock pick of the week" is up to #16 on the Mainstream Rock chart...

The other new entry at #50 is "Agora" from the group Bear Hands. The track jumps to #25 on the Alternative Rock chart in its fifth week...

And now on to the rock radio format charts....

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel Linkin Park climbs to #1 with "Until It's Gone". It's their eighth #1 hit on this list, and follows another chart-topper, "Guilty All The Same"...

South African brother-band KONGOS arrive at #37 with "I'm Only Joking". Their last single, "Come With Me Now", reached #14 on this format, while it stands at #15 on the Alternative chart...

Orlando-based metalcore act Trivium score their fourth hit at #40 with "Villainy Thrives". It's the second single from their album Vengeance Fails; the first, "Strife", climbed to #24..

Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, the aforementioned "Riptide" rules for a fifth week....

Little Rock, Arkansas is where the band Knox Hamilton got their start, and their first hit "Work It Out" enters at #38. The unassuming jangler sounds like it belongs back at 1993 (that's not a bad thing)...

The other new one here at #40 is sibling indie-pop group Echosmith with "Cool Kids", one of those rare instances where pop success precedes rock radio airplay, but still it's a good fit here and it's my "Rock Pick of the Week"....

Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Milky Chance remains at #1 for a fifth week with "Stolen Dance", and there are no songs making their debut....

I'll be back in an hour and a half with the latest R&B songs on the radio....
