Country Sweep: October 4, 2014...

Part four of today's "chart sweeps" is up with the latest songs on country radio as monitored by Billboard magazine.

On their Country Airplay chart, Dustin Lynch spends a second week at #1 with his first chart-topper, "Where It's At (Yep, Yep)"...

As Eric Church's third single from his Outsiders album, "Cold One", drops from its peak of #20 to #30 this week, he can take consolation as his fourth one, "Talladega", leaps in as the highest debut of the week at #45. It sounds like something Kenny Chesney would've released ten years ago...

While Jason Aldean's "Burnin' It Down" is still climbing the charts at #6, his album track "Sweet Little Somethin'" comes in at #55. I'm not sure how much more country radio will warm up to this ZZ Top-circa-1985 track, since the similarly dancy "1994" stalled in the 20s (one of only two of his to do so). I could totally hear this on rock radio though...

Jackie Lee enters at #57 with "She Does". The newcomer from Tennessee is easy on the eyes, I must say. The song? It's not bad; it would make a pretty decent mid-tempo two-step...

After a break of six years (save for a featured credit on hubby Garth Brooks' minor hit "The Call", Trisha Yearwood returns at #59 with "Prizefighter" featuring American Idol superstar Kelly Clarkson. It's the title track from her upcoming album, which I believe is a greatest hits set. It's my "Country Pick of the Week", though sorry for only this live clip being available on line as yet...

The final new entry of the week is from another country hitmaker, Tim McGraw, with "Keep On Truckin'". His official radio single "Shotgun Rider" also leaps 10 spots to #31...Lord, Tim, stop with these ones. Please. It's just not right.

I'll wrap things up in an hour and a half with the latest dance jams in the clubs and on the radio...

Trisha's set is half new, half re-recorded songs. I don't think they're billing it as a Greatest Hits, though.

I was figuring it might be re-recorded. With the "hit after hit" subtitle is kind of misleading.
