Rock Sweep: September 27, 2014...
Round two of this week's "charts sweeps" is up, sampling the songs making the latest radio charts in Billboard magazine. This time up I've got the latest rock songs on the radio...
On the main Rock Airplay chart, Vance Joy spends a sixth week on top with "Riptide"...
Rocketing back on the chart at #22 is pop-punk vets Fall Out Boy with "Centuries", the preview single from their upcoming sixth album (I wrote a little more on the last sweep, where it's the big debut as well). Their welcome return is my "Rock Pick of the Week". Last year they went to #8 here with "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark"...

U2, now known as "the band that stuck their album on your iTunes", land at #38 with a song from their new set, "The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)". Meh, it sounds like West Coast geeks trying to act punk. This is what we've become.
Kentucky rockers Cage The Elephant put their third single from their Melophobia album, "Cigarette Daydreams", at #42. It follows "Take It Or Leave It", which climbed to #23 on this list. The new one also climbs to #28 on the Alternative rock chart...
As Gwen Stefani is about to start her stint on The Voice as a judge/mentor, hubby Gavin Rossdale's band, Bush, returns at #43 with "The Only Way Out". It's from their upcoming sixth album Man On The Run.
The last entry on the big rock chart at #48 is heavy metal act Five Finger Death Punch with "The Wrong Side Of Heaven", which also jumps into the top-20 on the Mainstream Rock chart. They reached #14 with "Battle Born"...
...and now on to the rock radio format charts...
On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, The Pretty Reckless move back to #1 for a second non-consecutive week with "Messed Up World"...
Danish metalheads Volbeat are in at #33 with "Doc Holliday", the fourth single from their Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies album. ..
Another hard rock act, Black Stone Cherry, moves in at #36 with "Remember Me", the second single from their Magic Mountain album. The first, "Me And Mary Jane", topped out at #16...
The aforementioned Bush track rounds things out at #38...
Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, German indie-folk duo Milky Chance takes over at #1, while the Fall Out Boy single jumps in at #24...
Jack Antonoff's side project away from fun., Bleachers, follows up their #1 hit "I Wanna Get Better" with the song at #31, "Rollercoaster"...
British alt-rock band Arctic Monkeys enter at #35 with "R U Mine?". Their last single, "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?", went to #5...
New York newcomers Panama Wedding drop in at #39 with "All Of The People"...
Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Milky Chance stay on top for a sixth week, while U2's new one arrives at #19...
British singer/songwriter George Ezra takes his international smash hit "Budapest" on to this chart at #22...
The final entry at #29 is California indie-rock act Delta Spirit with "From Now On"...
