The first Song of the Day for 2014 is by Philly pop and soul duo Daryl Hall and John Oates, who closed out 1984 with their sixth and most recent #1 pop hit "Out Of Touch". They followed that single up with "Method Of Modern Love", a funky spelling exercise written by Hall with Jenna Allen and produced by the artists with Bob Clearmountain, who gave the record a big, echo-filled sound, while dance king Arthur Baker helped with the mixing...
"Method Of Modern Love" reached the top-5 on the American pop chart in February of 1985, while also making the top-20 on the dance (#15) and Adult Contemporary (#18) charts. The single also crossed over to the R&B format (#21) and even got play on rock radio (#42). Internationally, the song was their sixth and most recent top-40 hit in England, and peaked at #7 in Canada.
