Rock Sweep: February 1, 2014...


Round two of this week's "chart sweeps" is up, with the latest songs to make the singles charts in Billboard magazine. This time up it's the newest on rock radio...

On the main Rock Airplay chart, Cage The Elephant spend an eleventh week on top with "Come A Little Closer"...

Rocketing in at #9 is the latest from alt-rock trio Foster The People, "Coming Of Age", my "Rock Pick of the Week".  It's the first single from their sophomore album Supermodel coming in March. Back in 2010 they went to #3 here with "Pumped Up Kicks"...

New York City hard rock band the Pretty Reckless, led by actress/singer Taylor Momsen, are back at #43 with "Heaven Knows", from their upcoming second album Going To Hell...


Modern Rock band Portugal. The Man return at #45 with "Modern Jesus". It's the follow-up to "Purple Yellow Red and Blue" which went to #27 here...


The fourth entry at #48 is South African post-grunge band Seether with the second single from the compilation Seether: 2002-2013. "Weak" follows "Seether", which went to #39 on this list..


And now on to the rock format sub-charts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel,  Avenged Sevenfold grab their second consecutive and third overall #1 with "Shepherd Of Fire"...

British metalcore band Asking Alexandria storm in at #37 with "Break Down The Walls"....


Florida metalcore outfit A Day To Remember enter at #40 with "Right Back At It Again". It's their first song from fifth album Common Courtesy to make the chart. Back in 2010 they went to #21 with "All I Want"...


Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, The Arctic Monkey claim their first #1 single with "Do I Wanna Know?", while the aforementioned Foster The People track is the highest debut at #12..

The Provo, Utah modern rock band Neon Trees return at #31 with "Sleeping With A Friend". They topped this format in 2009 with their first single "Animal"...


Indie rockers Grouplove come in at #36 with "Shark Attack", the second single from their Spreading Rumours album. The first, "Ways To Go", went to #2 last year...


Arriving at #40 is British singer/songwriter Birdy with her cover of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love". This single was a worldwide hit in 2011, reaching the top of the chart in the Netherlands and #2 in Australia and France...



 Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Bastille hangs in for a fourth week at #1 with "Pompeii"...

Jumping in at #21 are Fitz & The Tantrums with "The Walker". It's the follow-up to their #3 hit "Out Of My League"...


The other entry at #29 is "Got It Wrong" from the Wild Feathers. The indie-folk band went to #7 last year with "The Ceiling"...
