Pop Sweep: August 17, 2013...

Hey gang, it's time to kick off today's five-part "chart sweeps" of the new songs making the charts at Billboard magazine. As always, I'll start out with the pop side of things as well as the "big one", the Hot 100...

On the Billboard Hot 100, Robin Thicke racks up a ninth week on top with "Blurred Lines"....

The top entry of the week at #62 is Latin heartthrob Enrique Iglesias, who still rides the Jersey Shore-style club train with his new one, "Turn Up The Night"..

Pink comes in at #85 with the fourth single from her The Truth About Love and a former pop "pick of the week", "True Love" featuring Lily Allen....

After conquering the charts around the world, reaching the top-10 in England, Australia, and Germany, British folk singer/songwriter Passenger (real name Mike Rosenberg) arrives on American shores at #95 with "Let Her Go"....

The last debut on the big chart at #100 is country singer/Voice coach Blake Shelton with the third single from his Based On A True Story album, "Mine Would Be You". It follows "Boys 'Round Here", which became his highest rank on this chart at #12.

and now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 pop radio panel, the aforementioned "Blurred Lines" commands for a fifth week, and on this slow chart there are no debuting songs...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, Maroon 5 stick around at #1 with "Love Somebody"...

The high debut belongs to New Zealand native Lorde, who takes her top-5 rock hit "Royals" to #37 on the chart. It's my "Pop Pick of the Week" this week....

Also coming in at #39 is Scottish DJ/producer Calvin Harris with "I Need Your Love" with Ellie Goulding, a record that holds in the top-20 on the Hot 100...

Finally, on the Adult Contemporary, or "easy-listening" chart, Pink and Nate Ruess hold on for a sixth week on top with "Just Give Me A Reason"...

Entering at #29 is someone who just became an "adult" a couple weeks ago, Selena Gomez, with "Come & Get It". She turned 21 on July 22nd...

..and sashaying in at #30 in the whole other end of the age spectrum is Cher, who turned 67 last May, with "A Woman's World"...

That's it for the start of today's musical journey.....I'll return in 90 minutes with the latest on rock radio....
