Belinda Carlisle - "Mad About You"
from the album Belinda (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #3 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14

Today's Song of the Day comes from singer Belinda Carlisle, who had fronted the all-female rock band the Go-Go's in the early 80's, until they broke up after their third album Talk Show in 1985. The following year she released her debut solo album, Belinda, which included some songs written when she was still a part of the band. One of them, "Mad About You", was co-written by former temp bandmate Paula Jean Brown, and became the first single released from the project. Former Duran Duran/Power Station guitarist Andy Taylor played on the single and appears in the video...

"Mad About You" became Belinda's first solo hit, reaching the top-3 on the American pop chart in August of 1986. The single also crossed over to the adult contemporary (or "easy-listening") radio chart in Billboard at #25. Internationally, the record went to #1 in Canada and top-10 in Australia, though in England it stalled out at #67.
