Songoftheday 11/16/14 - I'm not a prude I just want some respect so close the door if you want me to respond...

Janet Jackson - "Nasty"
from the album Control (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #3 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11

Today's Song of the Day is by Janet, or Miss Jackson, if you're nasty, who broke out of her shell and scored a top-5 pop hit with the first single from her Control album, "What Have You Done For Me Lately". The second single, "Nasty", was an even more assertive warning to men trying to play her up, with a sassy instrumental backup from producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The video was choreographed by Paula Abdul, who appears in the video...

"Nasty" became the second top-5 pop hit for Janet in July of 1986. Like its predecessor, the single went to #1 on the R&B chart and #2 on the dance club play chart in Billboard as well. Internationally, the record climbed to the top-10 in Canada, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, and stopped at #19 in the UK.
