Pop Sweep: November 8, 2014...

Hey gang, it's time to start catching up on the bloggie, with the first of last week's "chart sweeps" checking out the songs making the singles charts in Billboard magazine. I'll start with the pop side of things, then catch up on the latest on rock, R&B, country, and dance radio.

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of radio airplay, sales, and internet streaming (like Spotify and YouTube), Meghan Trainor spends an eighth week on top with "All About That Bass"....

This season's Voice coach newbie Gwen Stefani claims the top debut of the week at #46 with "Baby Don't Lie". It previews what will be her upcoming third solo album apart from her band No Doubt. Her first two albums scored a pair of top-10 pop singles each, with "Hollaback Girl" reaching #1 in 2005, but this toss-off faux-reggae number doesn't seem like something worth waiting years for...

The third promo track from Taylor Swift's pop excursion, 1989, is "Welcome To New York", which arrives at #48. Her current radio single, "Shake It Off", remains at #2 for an eighth week after dropping from the top of the chart. This one, and whoever decided on her being the "welcome ambassador to New York", is embarrassing...

Alt-rapper DeJ Loaf makes her debut at #67 with "Try Me", her first to hit the Hot 100..

Scottish DJ/producer Calvin Harris comes in at #68 with "Outside" featuring British vocalist Ellie Goulding. His current radio single "Blame" jumps up to #21. Both are from his upcoming Motion album...

The second single from rapper Flo Rida's upcoming Perfect 10 album, "G.D.F.R." with Sage The Gemini and Lookas, lands at #84. The first, "How I Feel", popped in at #96. It seems on this one he's leaving the dance-rap behind for a trap-musik remake of "Turn Down For What" (even with the title "Going Down For Real")....

The fourth single from country rocker Eric Church's The Outsiders album, "Talladega", drives in at #90. His #1 country hit "Give Me Back My Hometown" from the set went to #36 on the Hot 100...

Aussie rapper Iggy Azalea went to Saturday Night Live two weeks ago, and the song she performed with Danish singer/songwriter MØ, whose erratic performance caused most of its buzz, lands at #92. It'll be on the expanded reissue of Iggy's debut The New Classic called Reclassified...

As Meghan Trainor won't let go of #1, another song of hers, "Lips Are Movin", enters at #93...

French A-list DJ and producer David Guetta dances in at #96 with "Dangerous", the first single from his upcoming Listen album to make the Hot 100 (three other singles have hit the dance chart. This new one, featuring Sam Martin on vocals, has already gone to #1 in David's home country...

Memphis rapper Snootie Wild climbs into the Hot 100 for the first time at #97 with "Made Me" featuring KCamp...

The final new entry on the Hot 100 at #98 is country singer and former The Voice contestant RaeLynn with "God Made Girls". God, how much money did Blake Shelton shell out for this drivel to suddenly "catch on" at radio...

And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Taylor Swift returns to #1 for a second non-consecutive week with "Shake It Off", while the aforementioned Gwen Stefani and Iggy Azalea songs land at #29 and #38...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, "Shake It Off" is #1 for a fifth week, while "Baby Don't Lie" moves in at #35....

Dutch singer/songwriter Mr. Probz comes in at #37 with "Waves", which is in the top-40 on the Hot 100...

YouTube star and America's Got Talent finalist Lindsey Stirling lands her first radio hit as "Shatter Me" featuring Lzzy Hale from the hard rock band Halestorm falls in at #39. It's my "Pop Pick of the Week"...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary, or "easy listening", radio chart, Magic! stay on top for a second week with "Rude"...

The sole debut at #26 is British soulster Sam Smith with "I'm Not The Only One". His former #1 AC hit "Stay With Me" stays at #2...

That's all for this late start of my journey of last week's charts....next up will be the latest on rock radio...
