Album Sweep: September 20, 2014 - Part One...

The first half of this week's "album sweep" is up next, sampling the records making their debut on the Top 200 Albums sales chart in Billboard magazine. As usual, I've included links to buy anything here when possible (support the talent!), but if you can, stop by an indie record store and show some love. I did this week!

The top-selling album in America is the second #1 album for pop/rock band Maroon 5, who shift over 160,000 copies of their fifth album V. Their other chart-topper came in 2007 with their second set It Won't Be Soon Before Long...

Atlanta-based rapper Jeezy also sells over 100K of his fifth major-label studio album Seen It All: The Autobiography. Back when he had "Young" in front of his moniker, he scored back-to-back #1's with The Inspiration in 2006 and The Recession in 2008, and all five have made the top-3...

90's alternative-rock hitmakers Counting Crows return at #6 with their seventh effort Somewhere Under Wonderland. Six of them have gone top-10 (with the seventh reaching #11); their second album Recovering The Satellites topped the album chart in 1996..

Blues-rock guitar legend Johnny Winter passed away in July at the age of 70, after recording the album that shows up now at #17, Step Back. The set includes collaborations with other great axe-men like Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, and Leslie West of Mountain. It becomes his fourth top-40 album and highest rank he's ever been...

Frank Foster, an indie-country singer from Louisiana, lands his first top-40 album with Rhythm and Whiskey at #21...

Two members of veteran "boy-bands" team up as 'Nick & Knight' make their entry at #24 with their self-titled album. They are Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys and Jordan Knight from the New Kids On The Block...

Illinois metalcore band The Color Morale also make the top-40 for the first time with their fourth release Hold On Pain Ends...

Gospel family act the Walls Group move in at #39 with Fast Forward...

That's all for the first half of the new bunch...out of these eight the two to go for first are the Maroon 5 and Johnny Winter albums...

I'll be back tomorrow with part two...
