Album Sweep: August 31, 2013...

Well, I'm down to the last "sweep" from last week to catch up with, and it's the new records making the Top 200 Albums chart in Billboard magazine. As usual I've included links to buy anything if available...

Country A-lister Luke Bryan sells an amazing 500 thousand plus of his fourth regular studio album Crash My Party to debut at #1. It's his third release to top the big chart, after 2011's Tailgates & Tanlines and the compilation from his EP releases Spring Break...Here To Party.

Coming in at the runner-up spot is R&B singer K. Michelle, who after a couple of minor soul hits a few years back rode the reality-show wagon to fame with her presence on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta as her debut full-length release Rebellious Soul debuts at #2...

Pop/rock band Parachute land at #15 with their third set Overnight. It's their second top-20 album and highest rank as yet...

Chillwave artist Washed Out (real name Ernest Greene) scores his second top-40 album and biggest week as Paracosm washes in at #21...

Hipster alt-rap artist Hoodie Allen (Steven Markowitz to his mom) arrives at #28 with his Americoustic EP....

Alt-bluegrass musician Valerie June comes in at #41 with Pushin' Against A Stone...

Pop/punk outfit Yellowcard enter at #53 with Ocean Avenue Acoustic. It has stripped down versions of the songs from their first big album from 2003. Their biggest success so far was the followup, Lights and Sounds, which peaked at #5 in 2006...

Rapper Stevie Stone, who is on Tech N9ne's Strange Music label, jumps in at #76 with his debut 2 Birds 1 Stone....

The nunnery group Dominican Sisters of Mary from Michigan descend at #81 with Mater Eucharistae....

Country legend Glen Campbell comes in at #89 with his (unbelieveably) 62nd studio album, See You There. Glen topped the albums chart way back in 1968 with Wichita Lineman...

Christian Rock group the Digital Age, which contains former members of the David Crowder Band, are at #100 with their debut full-length, Evening:Morning....

The Wild Feathers enter at #109 with their self-titled debut disc...

Singer and reality-show vixen Aubrey O'Day formerly was with the prefab girl-group Danity Kane, but she's on her own at #131 with her first solo set Between Two Evils...

Oh lord, it must have been a week set aside for reality whores, as Brooke Hyland of the trainwreck Dance Moms actually charts her self-titled debut album at #138...Awful. just AWFUL.

The religious set Strong God by New Life Worship checks in at #165...Disclaimer - This is Ted Haggards old church, and was in the movie Jesus Camp....oofdah..

The cult-classic TV prefab rock band the Monkees' 1969 effort The Monkees Present gets the box set treatment by Rhino Records, and the 140$ set comes in at #174. Recorded without Peter Tork, the original album which went to #100 has been expanded to three discs. The band's first four albums all topped the albums chart...not bad, eh?

Christian artist Audrey Assad chimes in at #190 with her third studio album Fortunate Fall. She sounds awfully like Sarah McLachlan...

The final entry on the chart at #200 is the late great Johnny Cash with LIFE Unheard, a collection of rarities...

That's it for this whole bunch...out of these eighteen the six I'd recommend first are the Parachute, Wild Feathers, Glen Campbell, Valerie June, Washed Out, and Luke Bryan sets...
