Songoftheday 11/18/12 - Now that we know the fire can burn bright or merely smolder how do we keep it from dying away?...

Dan Fogelberg - "Make Love Stay"
from the album Greatest Hits (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #29 (three weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 6

Today's Song of the Day is by the late soft-rock king Dan Fogelberg, who released his first greatest hits album at the end of 1982, and had a top-40 hit with "Missing You", which for him was relatively rocking.

For the followup, the other new track on the album was the ballad "Make Love Stay", written by Dan and co-produced with Marty Lewis. It's an adult look at a love on the rocks, and was based on a Tom Robbins book, Still Life With Woodpecker, an all-over-the-map book that's part love story and part sci-fi from 1980...

The song, like "Missing You", made the pop top-30, and became Fogelberg's third #1 adult-contemporary chart.

And here's Dan without his latter-career beard live with the song...

Up tomorrow: a British group not telling the truth about their number.
