Rock Sweep: November 17, 2012...

Part two of today's "chart sweeps" of the latest songs making it on to the weekly music charts in Billboard magazine is here, and this time it's the latest on the various rock radio formats...

On the composite Rock Airplay chart, Mumford & Sons' "I Will Wait" enjoys a sixth week on top...

The sole debut on the chart this week is Canadian neo-New Wave group Metric, with the second single from their Synthetica album, "Breathing Underwater". The first, "Youth Without Youth", made #28 earlier in the year, and like the rest of the album I adore this song...

Over on the Modern Rock/Alternative radio chart, fellow Brits Muse stay at #1 for a fifth non-consecutive week with "Madness"...

The top debut here belongs to British indie-pop darlings Alt-J, who gets their first hit at #31 with "Fitzpleasure". It's artsy hipster groove is addictive...

One rung below that at #32 are the American alt-metal group the Deftones with "Tempest". They took "Change (In The House Of Flies)" to #3 back in 2000. It starts out all ethereal before the climactic torrent ensues...

Rapper Macklemore and sideman Ryan Lewis roll in at #35 with their hilarious trip to the "Thrift Shop" featuring singer Wanz. He's got the irreverence of the Beastie Boys with the smoothness of Pharrell down pat, and how can you not like a straight guy who supports marriage equality and footie pajamas?

Canadian twin sister indie heroes Tegan & Sara come in at #38 with "Closer", their first rock hit in the US. They took "Hell" to #2 on the same chart in their native country in 2009. This new one shows the renewed acceptance of dance-friendly tracks on alternative radio...

The last debut is the second single from the Killers' new album Battle Born. "When You Were Young" topped this chart in 2006, andthis song has the same slow-fast build up of the other hit....

Meanwhile, on the Mainstream Rock format chart, Three Days Grace claim a ninth week on top with "Chalk Outline"...

The only new song here is by Christian-metal-rap pioneers P.O.D., whose last single "Lost In Forever" was their biggest so far, peaking at #3 in the fall. The followup, "Higher", is at #37, wears its faith a bit more conspicuously over a Linkin Against the Machine groove...

At the Triple A (adult album alternative, or "hipster radio") chart, "I Will Wait" is at #1 for an amazing eleventh week, and there are no new entries...

On the Active Rock format, "Chalk Outline" is on top for an eighth week...

The aforementioned "Higher" by P.O.D. is the top new song at #36. They took "Lost In Forever" to #1 here earlier this year.

The band Otherwise come in at #38 with their second hit, "I Don't Apologize (1000 Pictures)". Their first, "Soldiers", made the top-20 here ...

Christian metal group 12 Stones are at #39 with "Psycho". They took "We Are One" to #28 in 2010...and they try their best to be "hard" without offending your parents...

And on the "Heritage Rock" format, "Chalk Outline" stays at #1 for a fifth week...

Southern postgrungers 3 Doors Down come in at #23 with "One Light". The band took "When You're Young" to #3 last year on this chart...

...while rockers Chevelle pop in at #24 with "Same Old Trip". Their "Face To The Floor" went to #3 here in the beginning of the year...

Well that does it for the rock end of the spectrum, I'll be back in an hour and a half with the latest on R&B radio...
